Ouessant : Tournepierre à collier (Arenaria interpress) - Port de Lampaul - 19 octobre 2005
Femelle baguée le 29 mai 2003 à Alert, Ellesmere Island, Canada
Dear Christian
Many thanks for the beautiful pictures of the colour-banded Ruddy
Turnstone at Port de Lampaul, Ile d'Ouessant, seen on 19 October
2005. I appreciate very much your sending this picture.
I am not sure if you are aware of the history of this bird, but
it is one that I captured and banded at Alert, on the northeast
coast of Ellesmere Island, Canada, (82 30N 62 20W) on 29 May 2003:
it was one of the first turnstones to arrive that year, and we
sexed it as a female, based on plumage. It spends the winters at
Lampaul Harbour - it was first seen there on 3 September 2003,
and has been seen many times during the winters of 2003-2004 and
2004-2005, and has now returned at the beginning of the 2005(-2006)
winter. The metal band number is 1313-59725. It is most
interesting to document the return of the same bird to the same
area from one year to the next, and I appreciate very much your
sending this information.
It would be very nice to hear from you again if you see the bird
again, or if you have any other questions.
Best wishes
